Swan Transit - An Overview
As a member of the Transit
Systems Australia group, Swan Transit commenced
operating bus services in Western Australia in the
Midland contract area in January 1996. As the first
private operator to win contracts in Transperths competitive
tendering of Perth's bus services, Swan Transit quickly
established itself as a flexible innovative operator.
This early success was repeated in July 1996 when
Swan Transit was again awarded two more contracts
to operate in the Canning and Southern River areas.
The meteoritic growth of the company continued in
early 1998 with the company being awarded the Kalamunda
and Armadale South contract areas.
In January 1999 Swan Transits reputation for sound
management practices was again recognised when it
was selected to manage Perth's new Circleroute bus
service.
Swan Transit took over the contracts
for Clarement and Belmont in 2002. In December 2006
Swan Transit was successful is retaining the Claremont
and Belmont contracts after a retendering process.
Swan Transit now employs 654 staff and operates around
429 buses in a geographic area boarded by Muchea in
the North, Wundowie in the East. Jarrahdale in the
South and the Fremantle to the West.
Swan Transits claim as Perth's leading provider of
public transport services, was again vindicated by
the results of the Passenger Satisfaction Monitor
surveys. The survey, Commissioned by the West Australian
Department of Planning and Infrastructure and compiled
by independent survey company Donovan Research, is
carried out over the entire Transperth network.
Patrons were asked such questions as their satisfaction
with the cleanliness of the vehicle, drivers route
knowledge and driving skills. Swan Transit drivers
consistently score higher that its competitors in
the majority of the areas canvassed and, in 1999,
received a mention in the Donovan Researches summary
as the company that appears to have got it right.
Swan Transit is a Quality Assured company under ISO
9001:2000 and its Safety System is certified to AS/NZS
4801:2001. Swan Transit is committed to providing
safe efficient public transport and to continue to
grow its reputation for quality by responding to the
transport needs of its customers.
The success of Swan Transit in West Australia has
also been instrumental in assisting the group in winning
tenders to operate public transport services in the
Adelaide Metropolitan area. In South Australia the
group operates over 560 buses under the name Torrens
Transit.
